Bugs in the Grupo Mayan

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

In recent years many divers visiting the Grupo Mayan enjoy the hunt of Lobster diving, that is commonly known as “Bug Diving”. The actual hunt surrounding these interesting crustaceans is not only fun but also the end results are a tasty treat to finish the day with.

Lobster dives are quite popular in areas of the Grupo Mayan as the divers take to the ocean in search of the Spiny Lobster, which is always in popular demand. All the lobster dive zones generally have precise Lobster hunting seasons defined and unique diving excursions become organized around the start of these seasons. Most tour personnel of the Grupo Mayan are general aware of these seasons and will readily advise you of that. They schedule their dives not only on the season but also on where to dive, the paramount times to accomplish the dives and on any sort of bag limits as well as quantity and size limitations.

A unique feature involving Grupo Mayan dives going down for lobsters is that these creatures have a tendency to dwell in some very appealing places where most divers like to visit anyway such as artificial and natural reefs and undersea shipwrecks. As with other aspects of the hobby of diving, the hunting of bugs requires skill and lots of practice. Lobsters tend to be very intimidating when they snap those big claws around in the water. When you are lobster hunting keep in mind that those claws are very powerful and could easily give a nasty bit to the careless diver. More in lines with the speedy little critters is that you are likely to loose the lobster as it shuttles away long before you are able to scoop it up.

To go bug hunting you require no unusual equipment other then possibly a collecting bag plus a pair of heavy duty gloves. Most Grupo Mayan divers have developed a special system to capture these tasty morsels. When you are diving it would be best for you to circle the reef, or the cavern or the specific wreck searching within the crevices, all the holes or peeking within any cracks you may encounter until you happen to sight the small telltale antennas of the lobster or perhaps those snappy little claws. With some practice the skilled Grupo Mayan diver can quickly latch onto the lobster from behind its claws and in one scope lift him up carefully tail first place him into the lobster bag. Since lobsters tend to always in reverse, it is important to put them into the bags tail first. This way they swim into the lobster bag as opposed to swimming out.

Since the lobsters possess a nocturnal type nature many of the most successful Grupo Mayan dives usually in completed in the dark of night. Since we are already aware that the creatures reside in shipwrecks then certification in cavern diving, night diving and diving in shipwreck certification would possibly be a recommendation prior to engaging in these fun and interesting lobster dives.

Dolphin Center - Grupo Mayan Resorts

Monday, September 15th, 2008

The Grupo Mayan firmly supports the Dolphin Center located at the Dolphin Adventure. This highly popular and active entertainment opportunity in Puerto Vallarta offers the Grupo Mayan Resort guests and visitors several opportunities to learn first hand about the friendly dolphins, it will allow you to swim with them as well as interact with these highly intelligent mammals. All this is accomplished by way of the Grupo Mayan supported Dolphin Encounter and Dolphin Swim programs.

The Dolphin Center was constructed in 1996 shortly after Dolphin Adventure had been granted their special license necessary to care for these trusting dolphins. Many of the Grupo Mayan visitors ask who controlled the well fair of the dolphins. Usually it is a combination of organizations. In Mexico, it is specifically the Fisheries Department of Mexico.

The seawater pools, which hold the dolphins, are generally larger than what the United States, Europe and Mexico Fisheries agencies specify. Each of the pools will hold more then two million gallons of filtered seawater, which uses both ozone generators and sand filters to purify the water. Most of the guests at the Grupo Mayan who visit this attraction are very content with the human treatment extended to the dolphins.

Upon receiving their granted license to maintain and care for dolphins in 1996 the construction of area one was begun. The custom made lagoon was constructed upon a floating dock in order to properly accommodate the movements relating to the tide which usually changes the water level up to 6 feet per day. Area 2 was opened October 2000 and as a result of the increased dolphin families as well as the success of the programs it was again expanded in the year 2004. the Grupo Mayan was extremely happy to see the ultra modern education facilities that were created specifically for the dolphin and other marine mammal. Grupo Mayan guests particularly enjoy the underwater viewing area, which allows them to face the various sea life eye to eye. They have even constructed a special maternity pool complete with life support systems catering to the expectant mothers.

Grupo Mayan is glad of the dolphin centers combined thirty years of experience in handling all phases in the study of marine mammals. They are firmly committed to overseeing the welfare and health of the dolphin families. They readily admit to the Grupo Mayan visitors that the dolphins are exceptionally complex and highly intelligent thus they are still learning many things about these fantastic animals.

El Faro Lighthouse and Grupo Mayan visitors

Friday, August 15th, 2008

This famous 90-foot high lighthouse, which is commonly identified as El Faro is an actual working lighthouse. It is one of the major landmarks associated with the Rincon coast. It was once destroyed by a tidal wave but the lighthouse was so dearly embedded in the hearts of the local people that it was rebuilt. With this new construction of El Faro the Grupo Mayan guests can enjoy a quaint little park at its base, a modern fast food restaurant and a gift shop inside, a picnic area with benches spread around and a small maritime museum also. There are plenty of attractions to occupy both the young and the old.

The El Faro Park remains a popular gathering spot for the Grupo Mayan visitors to watch the enchanting sunsets with a loved one or during the cool winter season the Grupo Mayan guests can watch the playful dolphins frolicking in the ocean along with the many whales families.

Since El Faro in situated in the middle of Domes Beach with Rincon Beach on the one side and Maria’s Beach on the other is offers the Grupo Mayan visitor many fine opportunities for underwater fun ranging from snorkeling to scuba diving.
The El Faro lighthouse itself was initially constructed in 1892 when the area was first controlled by the Spanish, just prior to the Spanish-American War of 1898. It was one of two lighthouses in the area destroyed by a tsunami and an earthquake in 1918, the other being the Point Borinquen lighthouse located in nearby Aquadilla.

As mentioned, this 90-foot high lighthouse was rebuilt and its first light turn on in 1922. It was automated in the year 1933 and today it operates as an un-staffed 26,000 candlepower revolving beacon. Although it is still operational, since it is un-staffed it is closed to Grupo Mayan visitors and the public.

El Faro Park has a small entertainment area, which is well maintained and very delightful to view. While a lot of the coast is inhabited by, the visiting Grupo Mayan tourists this park is most likely equally divided between the local population and the tourist guests.

An abundance of Bougainvilleas tends to flourish all around the El Faro lighthouse but they are particularly beautiful when viewed along the edge of the sea. After a short walk on the beach, Grupo Mayan guests meet back at El Faro Park where they can enjoy sitting on one of the many seats provided and withdrawing into the shade sipping a refreshing bottle of water.

Enjoying a game of golf at the Grupo Mayan

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Playing a few rounds of gulf while at the granmayan has never been easier. The area of Puerto Vallarta has in recent years been becoming an excellent golf aficionados paradise. In the few short years that it has existed, they have managed to elevate the standards of golf in Mexico with their innovative upscale golf amenities and their magnificent yet exclusive country club.

Creating this most stimulating of championship golf courses within the country of Mexico was a challenge that was officially presented to Von Hagge, Baril and Smelek who as a team had designed over two hundred golf courses worldwide. Most of the granmayan golfer’s who partake of the course have outwardly stated that it matches if not surpasses any championship course constructed in America.

This memorable golfing experience commences upon your appearance at the entryway to the golf club house where you pass through a very tall and impressive masonry and stone archway that vaguely resembles an ancient Mayan temple in design. Most impressive to Grupo Mayan visitors is the fact that a live Bengal tiger is permanently living on the premises in his own secure area.

El Tigre’s 18-hole golf course is proudly rendered as an extremely challenging course in Mexico, however; Grupo Mayan golf enthusiasts are quick to point out that this course is also extraordinarily forgiving to novice “Tee Hitters”.

If you have never enjoyed a few games of golf with several of your close friends before then Grupo Mayan can make the transition from beginner to pro effortlessly. No, you won’t become a Tiger Woods however you can improve upon a stoke or two in your game.

After you have played a course or two you will quickly see why Grupo Mayan visitors disclose that this course is like none they have ever played. Make El Tigre another reason for you to visit Grupo Mayan.

The actual course consists of an 18 hole, par 72, course that is 7239 yards long. 12 of these holes feature water barriers. What Grupo Mayan says is this course id considered a tropical style course. Several features that tend to make this a popular golf course for both amateurs and professionals is the driving Range. Grupo Mayan is pleased with the 300-yard driving range that contains tees on each end, target greens located on each side of the driving range and the chipping and sand practice area. Its putting range situated neighboring the Clubhouse offers a variety of the putting holes that challenges any skill levels.
